Tipping Fee Added to Trash Collection Cost
We have received notification from our trash hauler that on April 25, 2023, the Prince William County Board of County Supervisors (PWC BOCS) approved a landfill tipping fee of $40 per ton to be charged for all regular refuse disposed of by waste haulers and commercial users beginning January 1, 2024. Since these fees are not included in current refuse removal agreements, they will be passed on to each subscriber.
We have contacted our hauler to request an analysis of the anticipated tipping fee for each of the 6,286 LRPRA units participating in the collective agreement. We have been told that the new cost to be added is estimated to be in the range of $5.00 per month per unit.
As you know, LRPRA collects only the amount needed to cover the cost of the service from participating LRPRA units. This is called a "pass-through expense," LRPRA collects the individual amounts to pay the bulk invoice in total, resulting in a lower cost of billing and collections for the contractor and lowering the fees charged for service to each unit.
Once we receive the final figure, this "PWC Landfill Tipping Fee" will be added to each quarterly statement for the participating units as a separate new fee related to the household refuse collection service. Again, this will be a pass-through expense, and you will only be charged what must be paid to the hauler.
More information can be found by visiting Prince William County website at the following link.
Since this is a PWC BOCS initiative, we cannot answer questions relating to the creation of this fee. For more details, don't hesitate to contact the PWC BOCS or refer to their website.
